If you have never hosted a private hibachi chef, the idea can feel a little abstract. Here is the full arc of an event, from the moment you submit a booking request to the moment your chef drives away.
Before the event
After you submit a booking request, our team confirms chef availability for your date and city, then collects a $50 deposit that locks in your reservation. About a week out we confirm your final headcount, protein selections and any dietary needs.
What you need to prepare
For Classic bookings, set up tables and chairs and put out dinner plates, salad plates and utensils for each guest. That is genuinely the whole list. Your chef brings the flat-top grill, propane, every ingredient, the sauces and the entire cooking station. Premium and Luxury packages include table and chair setup, so those hosts do even less.
Clear roughly a 10 by 10 foot flat, dry outdoor area for the chef, with open clearance above for the flame show. Patios, decks, pergolas, carports and grass all work. We cannot cook inside a house, garage or any fully enclosed space.
Arrival and setup
Your chef arrives 30 to 45 minutes before service to position the grill, lay out proteins, rice, vegetables and sauces, and prep the station. Most chefs will ask where you want the grill positioned and confirm the timing of the show.
The show
Service opens with the signature onion volcano, then moves through fried rice, grilled vegetables and each guest’s chosen proteins, cooked to order in front of the table. Expect shrimp tosses, knife work, the sake squirt and a lot of photo opportunities. Classic runs about 90 minutes; Premium and Luxury run about 120.
Cleanup
When dinner ends, the chef breaks down the entire station, packs the grill and cleans the cooking area before leaving. Most hosts report that the only thing they did all evening was open the gate.
Common questions on the day
Can we move the grill? Ask the chef before service starts — repositioning mid-show is disruptive.
What about kids? Children love the show. Chefs adjust the performance for younger audiences automatically.
Can we take photos and video? Absolutely, and we encourage it.
